The Meaning of Sufism and an Explanation of Its Position Regarding Islam

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The sixth question of Fatwa No. ( 6899 ):
Q6: The problem of Sufism: what is its meaning and what is its position in Islam, namely: the Tijaniyyah and the Qadiriyyah and the Shi'ah , those orders have concentrated
in Nigeria ; for example, the Tijaniyyah order there has a prayer called: the Prayer of the Virgin, which begins: "O Allah, send blessings upon our master Muhammad, the Opener of what was closed... until it says: the truth of His measure and His great measure." This prayer has been given a status better and greater than the Ibrahimic prayer, and we saw that in their book called: [Jawahir al-Ma'ani] Part (1) p.136. Is this correct?

Vol. 6: It was said: The Sufis were named after the *sifah* (porch) because they resembled a group of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) who were poor and would take shelter in the *sifah* of the Prophet's Mosque . This is not correct, for the attribution to the *sifah* is *Saffi* (with a shaddah on the fa' and a ya' of attribution, not a waw). It was also said: They were named after *Safwah* (the elite) because of the purity of their hearts and deeds. This is also an error: because the attribution to (*Safwah*) is *Saffawi*, and because religious innovation and corruption of creed prevailed among them. It was also said: They were named after *suf* (wool) because it was their emblem in clothing. This is closer to the language and to their reality. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
