Some writers described the brother "Ali al-Halabi" as holding the views of the Murji'ah, the Ahbash, and the secularists, and as being ignorant and an innovator; what is your opinion of that?

The questioner : Our Shaykh, some writers described the brother "AliAl-Halabi : as holding the views of the Murji'ah, the Ahbash, and the secularists in matters of ruling and declaring someone a disbeliever, and they further described him as being ignorant and an innovator. We know that Shaykh Ali, I mean, we do not declare him pure before Allah, and he has a connection with you through the sessions with you.

The Shaykh : We do not declare any of us free from error and distraction, for infallibility belongs only to the prophets and messengers. But I say regarding the matter of creed: We have not known of any evil in him, and the scope for speech and accusation is very wide. Therefore, we say: May Allah forgive the one who says something contrary to what he believes about his Muslim brother. Our brother "Ali" is not a Murji'i, and he does not say anything other than what the righteous Salaf believe. As for the one who attributes such things to him, the least that can be said about him is that he has transgressed Islamic etiquette. But I fear—and I mean what I say—that the matter is more and more dangerous than that; namely, that he is attributed with beliefs from which he is innocent, as innocent as the wolf is from the blood of the son of Ya'qub, as it was said in old times. Therefore, I say that we should not waste our time asking about such words; because first: they revolve around the fundamental point. And second: they are a branching off of speech, as it is said: "I hear the noise but I do not see the grinding." There is absolutely no substance beneath them other than throwing accusations without right, and this is one of the errors we find today among the Muslim youth, with great regret.
