The questioner : Another question related to the topic regarding the interpretation of the hadith:
Between a man and disbelief is the abandonment of prayer بين الرجل والكفر ترك الصلاة
.

The Shaykh : Yes, this is a long discussion, but its summary is
Between a man and disbelief is the abandonment of prayer, so whoever abandons prayer has committed disbelief بين الرجل والكفر ترك الصلاة ، فمن ترك الصلاة فقد كفر
Disbelief is of two types: doctrinal disbelief and practical disbelief. If a Muslim whom we know to be a Muslim testifies that there is no god but Allah, and he may pray once, even in Ramadan, but does not pray on most days, and if his abandonment of prayer is based on belief, meaning that he leaves it believing that it is not obligatory and not a duty, then his disbelief is doctrinal disbelief; because he has adopted in his heart a belief that is not the belief of the Muslims, but rather the belief of the disbelievers who will regret on the Day of Resurrection and say:
We were not of those who prayed, لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ الْمُصَلِّينَ
[Al-Muddaththir 74:43]
. However, if his abandonment of prayer is due to laziness, while he believes in its obligation and duty, and that it is good in the sight of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), then his disbelief is practical disbelief, not doctrinal disbelief.
