The questioner : Well, my teacher, a piece of advice for our sisters to read some books, meaning those in which they might be successful, regarding the Salafi da'wah, and a word from you on how they can be, for example, da'iyah (female callers) to their sisters and draw their attention, of course, to the existence of the da'wah.
The Shaykh : I advise every Muslim man and woman to acquire knowledge from reliable books, whether they pertain to the Prophetic hadith, the explanation of this hadith, or the derivation of rulings from it. The problem of the Prophetic hadith in the present age has not yet been solved, because the scholars of the Muslims have all agreed that what is not from the Prophetic hadith has entered into it, and distinguishing the authentic from the weak is among the most difficult matters. Therefore, with great regret, in all these centuries that have passed, only a few individuals among the scholars have mastered this difficult craft. For this reason, we advise that the first reference for the student of knowledge be to "the two Sahihs": "Sahih al-Bukhari" and "Sahih Muslim"; because the Muslims accepted them from them. And this, of course, does not mean that "Sahih al-Bukhari" and "Sahih Muslim" are a revealed book from the Wise, the Praiseworthy. No, the matter is as it was said, or as it is narrated, from Imam al-Shafi'i: "Allah refused to complete anything other than His Book." But the reality is that the most authentic books after the Book of Allah are "Sahih al-Bukhari" and "Sahih Muslim"; therefore, we advise every Muslim to rely on them and on the hadiths they mentioned in their two books, in detail that there is no room to delve into now. Then I advise referring to the books of the Imams who followed the methodology of the righteous Salaf in understanding the Book and the Sunnah, foremost among them being Imam Ibn Taymiyyah and his student Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah, as well as Imam al-Shawkani, al-San'ani, Ibn al-Wazir al-Yamani, and others like them whom Allah (Mighty and Majestic) saved from the shackles of taqlid (blind following) and guided them to follow the methodology of the righteous Salaf. Then they should all turn to studying books that by their nature rely on what is authentic from the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), whether that is in creed or in fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence). I mentioned earlier the book "Al-'Ulu" by Imam al-Dhahabi, which is in creed, and I now mention an example in fiqh, which is the book: "Fiqh al-Sunnah" by Sayyid Sabiq. In reality, he followed, or at least tried to follow, the path of relying on the Book and the Sunnah and not being bound by or showing partisanship toward any of the schools of the Imams. He was successful in this to a great extent, even though, like any other human being, he is not free from some illusions and errors from which no human being is free except one who is protected from sin, such as the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). This is my will; I bequeath to every Muslim man and woman that they adhere to this methodology and seek help in understanding it and acting upon it through the books of the Imams who are famous for following this sound methodology. And praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
