What is the manner of the talbiyah?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : As for the manner that was explained recently, we say: To my knowledge, there is no collective dhikr with a single voice in any of the dhikr mentioned in the Sunnah, whether that is after the prayers, in the talbiyah, or in anything similar. Rather, each person recites the talbiyah by himself, without linking his talbiyah to that of his companion or neighbor. Yes, his talbiyah may coincide with the talbiyah of others, and they may walk together; there is nothing wrong with that. However, the intention must be that they do not deliberately engage in collective dhikr, because we have observed, on many occasions, a serious error committed by some people who commit to collective dhikr. Since people’s breaths differ in length and shortness, the breath of the one reciting may run out when he says, “La ilaha,” and he wants to catch up with the group, so he cuts off the phrase there and takes up, “wa hadahu la sharika lahu,” for example, or something similar. Thus, he falls into implying what he does not intend. Therefore, every Muslim should remember Allah with the talbiyah, the takbir, the tasbih, and in every dhikr, alone, and not link himself to others. This is what we know of the manner of the talbiyah and the takbir, whether in the talbiyah of Hajj or otherwise.
