Is congregational prayer obligatory for a traveler if he hears the adhan?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : ... ؟

The Shaykh : Is he alone, or is there a group with him?

The questioner : He is alone...

The Shaykh : If you had been attentive, you would not have asked. Tell me: if he hears the adhan for Jumu'ah, is it obligatory for him?

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : He hears the adhan for Jumu'ah and he is a traveler; is it obligatory for him?

The questioner : It is not obligatory for the traveler, and Allah knows best.

The Shaykh : It is this.

The questioner: Huh?

The Shaykh : It is this.

The questioner : That is it.

The Shaykh : So, if you understand this, and this is the case, then it is even more so that it is not obligatory for the one who hears the adhan for Zuhr. But I asked you: is he alone, or is there a group with him? You said: alone. But the situation is: if there is a group with you, it is obligatory for that group to pray in congregation, but not in the mosque. If they pray in the mosque, they have fulfilled what is required of them. This is like the traveler who prays Jumu'ah, as Abu al-Arab asked here; if this traveler prays Jumu'ah with the Muslim congregation, the obligation of Zuhr is dropped from him. Similarly, if this traveler hears the adhan for Zuhr, enters, and prays, the obligation is dropped from him. But it is not obligatory for him to go to the mosque. However, if he is with a group, it is obligatory for that group to pray in congregation, and they should not pray while riding. Is the answer clear?

The questioner : Is that clear?
