What is the ruling if one of the children gives their mother a valuable gift
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : As for the third part of the question, which is that a mother accepted or was given a gift from one of her children, and then later, after she had grown old, she wanted to return that gift to the son who had given it to her, the answer is that the recipient of the gift, when the wealth transfers to him through a lawful means—and among these means are gifts and presents—this wealth becomes his property, just as if he had inherited it, or traded in it, or the like. Thus, this gift becomes part of that woman's wealth. Consequently, it is not permissible for her to return this gift to her son; rather, she should leave it in her wealth. After a long life, if Allah wills, her sons will share what she leaves behind of her wealth, and that includes this gift. Furthermore, it is possible that Satan may intervene if it were said that returning this gift is permissible after the woman has taken ownership of it. Satan might whisper to some of the fathers or mothers to give a gift or present to some of the children, claiming that this gift or present was one they had taken from their son as a gift from him. To block this door and this circumvention of the rulings of Allah, it is said: Since this gift has entered the ownership of the recipient, who is the old woman in this case, it is not permissible for her to return this gift to the son who gave it to her.
