What is your opinion of one who claims consensus on the validity of all the hadiths in the two Sahihs?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : He said consensus, meaning consensus, and it was mentioned regarding the validity of what is in "the two Sahihs." So how do we hesitate regarding the verification or weakening of...?

The Shaykh : Who said there is consensus?

The questioner : About Ibn al-Salah and al-Suyuti in al-Tadrib.

The Shaykh : No.

The questioner : In al-Tadrib al-Rawi, al-Suyuti mentioned it.

The Shaykh : I do not think it is anything but you who are mistaken, or he is, and the bitterer of the two is bitter. Do you know or do you not know that some of the hadiths were criticized by Imam al-Daraqutni? Do you know or do you not know?

The questioner : I know that it is in four hadiths.

The Shaykh : How four?

The questioner : In "Sahih Muslim."

The Shaykh : Ah.

The questioner : I know that, meaning in "Sahih Muslim," this is all I know regarding it.

The Shaykh : Look, you are returning to your first treatment of me. I ask you, and you do not answer me. I ask you a brief, concise question that makes it easy for you to answer. I say to you: Do you know or do you not know?

The questioner : I do not know.

The Shaykh : You say you know or you do not know, and the matter is finished.

The questioner : I do not know.

The Shaykh : Because when the question is this concise, the answer is the most concise. When the one seeking a ruling asks the mufti, or the mufti presents to him a long request, which we call a "jaranar" (a long, rambling account), saying "I experienced such and such, and I said such and such, and my wife said such and such, and then is my wife divorced or not?" He writes underneath "divorced" or "not divorced," and he does not return a new "jaranar" to him; he explains it to him. No, the best of speech is what is little and sufficient. So when you transmit the consensus of the scholars that everything in the two Sahihs is authentic, and the previous question was put to you: Do you know Imam al-Daraqutni's criticism of Sahih al-Bukhari specifically, or do you not? Rest yourself and rest others with you by saying: "I know." For example, based on your statement, I intend to say also, I intend the connected hadiths, right? Meaning other than the disconnected hadiths that you are referring to with your intent... Well, these connected hadiths, al-Bukhari hesitated in them, and Imam Muslim hesitated in many of them, and I think the professor at your place now is al-Rabi' ibn Hadi.

The questioner : Yes, I know him.

The Shaykh : You must know him.

The questioner : I know him.

The Shaykh : And perhaps you know that he is my student when I was...

The questioner : I know him, meaning through his speech...

The Shaykh : But, yes, so he was a student when I was a professor of the subject of hadith at the Islamic University, and he graduated a year after me, then he went and studied at King Abdulaziz University in Makkah, and he graduated and became, if Allah wills, a professor at your place. The important thing is that his thesis, on the basis of which he obtained his degree, was: The verification of Imam al-Daraqutni's words in what he criticized in Sahih Muslim. And his book was a volume like this; he gifted it to me, and I used to meet him every year, mostly when I performed Hajj or 'Umrah. The point is that the matter is as Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Allah refused to complete anything but His Book." And now I am coming to you, or I will give you some examples that put the student of knowledge in a state of clarity regarding the falsity of that claim. You know the famous hadith, which is from the narration of...The Shaykh : ... in "their two Sahihs" from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
There are seven whom Allah will shade in His shade on the day on which there is no shade except His shade: a just imam, a youth who grows up worshipping Allah
Muwatta Malik 51:14
, until he said:
and a man who gives charity so secretly that his left hand does not know what his right hand has given
Bulugh al-Maram 4:33
. You certainly do not know that this hadith is in "Sahih al-Bukhari" like this, but in "Sahih Muslim" it is reversed; where it says:
a person who gives charity and conceals it (to such an extent) that the right hand does not know what the left has given
Sahih Muslim 1031a
; is this correct? Did you understand me?

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : This is what the scholars of hadith call the reversed hadith. The correct narration, in which there is no doubt, says:
And a man who gave charity with his right hand and concealed it so that his left hand did not know what his right hand had spent
. The hadith in "Sahih Muslim" is reversed:
And a man who gave charity with his left hand and concealed it so that his right hand did not know what his left hand had spent
. Yes, this is a mistake, without a doubt, a certain mistake.
just as [sure as] it is that you are speaking.
[Adh-Dhariyat 51:23]
. And what is your opinion if a questioner asked you and wanted to know that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) married many blessed, good wives, and among them was Maymunah. Do you know where he married her?

The questioner : No.

The Shaykh : You do not know. In "the two Sahihs," the hadith of Ibn 'Abbas is: "That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married Maymunah while he was in a state of ihram." This is in "the two Sahihs." Outside "the two Sahihs," from Maymunah herself, she said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married me while he was in a state of halal (not in ihram)." And all the scholars who came after the narration of the two Shaykhs of the first hadith from Ibn 'Abbas said: This hadith is a mistake, because Maymunah was married by the Messenger (peace be upon him) while she was in a state of halal. Therefore, it is impossible for a researcher, a scholar, and a verifier to say that all the connected hadiths in "the two Sahihs" are authentic, because reality rejects and refutes this completely. And the research in this field is long and very long, but this amount is sufficient, unless there are further questions about the topic, in which case we are ready to receive them and answer them.
