Explanation of the hadith of Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: “Do you know what the likeness of this and this is?” and he threw two pebbles

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And from Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Do you know what the likeness of this and this is? And he threw two pebbles. They said: “Allah and His Messenger know best.” He said: “This is hope, and that is the term.” هل تدرون ما مثل هذه وهذه ورمى بحصاتين ، قالوا: الله ورسوله أعلم ، قال : هذا الأمل ، وذاك الأجل
: A pebble thrown from near and a pebble thrown from far.
So he said:
This far one is hope, and this near one is the term. هذا البعيد هو الأمل ، وهذا القريب هو الأجل
:
The meaning of these hadiths is clear, and it is to turn Muslims away and deter them from rushing after this world and being preoccupied with it, and that they not forget that this world is the farm for the Hereafter and that it is a means, not an end, and that the end is the Hereafter and reaching it safely.
This is what we conclude the lesson with.
