The reader: And here is another issue, which is also a hadith related to narration. The hadith says what? "The basis for considering precision is the mass-transmitted hadith: Mishkat al-Masabih 228, 229".
Does the hadith indicate the necessity of narrating the hadith by the exact text as the narrator heard it?
The Shaykh : Conveying the message is obligatory, but that does not negate narrating the hadith by meaning. That is, there are two things here. The first thing: conveying the listener's report of the hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) word for word. But that does not negate the fact that, as a dispensation from the Wise Lawgiver, it is permissible for him to narrate the hadith by meaning, subject to the two conditions mentioned previously. The supplication for brightness is for the one who perfected the narration of the hadith and narrated it as he heard it, but that does not negate the permissibility of narrating the hadith by meaning, subject to the two previous conditions. This same hadith has been narrated with different wordings, and there are many, many hadiths in the practical aspect that indicate the permissibility of narrating the hadith by meaning. However, when the time for conveying comes, one should be mindful of the wording and narrate it as he heard it, but that does not negate the permissibility of narrating by meaning, especially if the need calls for it.
God brighten a man who hears what I say, gets it by heart, retains it, and passes it on to others! Many a bearer of knowledge is not versed in it, and many a bearer of knowledge conveys it to one who is more versed than he is.
