Continuation of the explanation of the hadith of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: (

The Shaykh: He said,
And he was وكان
the Messenger - (peace and blessings be upon him) -
He had his son (Ibrahim) suckled in part of Madina
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 376
He had a son, and he was Ibrahim - (peace and blessings be upon him) - as in the narration of this hadith by Imam Muslim in his Sahih.
He had his son (Ibrahim) suckled in part of Madina
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 376
That is, he gave him to a woman to breastfeed this son of his, Ibrahim, (peace and blessings be upon him and his father).
And his wet-nurse's husband was a blacksmith
These are Arabic words that are unfortunately obsolete. Therefore, one of the qualities that a student of hadith benefits from is the Arabic language, in addition to the Noble Qur'an. So Anas said about this breastfed child, meaning about Ibrahim ibn Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon them both), that when he was being breastfed in a part of Medina,
His wet-nurse's husband was a blacksmith
that is, the husband of his wet-nurse. The *zayyir* is the husband of the mother who breastfeeds the child. And his *zayyir* was a blacksmith. So the husband of the wet-nurse who was breastfeeding Ibrahim - (peace and blessings be upon him) - the son of the Prophet - (peace and blessings be upon him) - was a blacksmith, meaning a smith. A *qayn* is a smith. Anas said,
And we used to visit him وكنا نأتيه
meaning we would visit Ibrahim - (peace and blessings be upon him) - while he was being breastfed. But this visit came incidentally, so the visit was ostensibly for the wet-nurse's husband, but if the infant had not been with this *qayn*, meaning the smith, they would not have come to him. So Anas said:
And we used to visit him وكنَّا نأتيه
meaning with the Prophet - (peace and blessings be upon him) -
And the house had been filled with the smoke of 'idhkhar
'Idhkhar is a plant well known in the Arabian desert. He filled the house with smoke because, as a smith, he would light a fire there to heat the iron and to soften it for working. So he filled the house with the smoke of 'idhkhar. This is an idiom indicating that the house was completely filled with smoke, including the clothes and the people. Among these people, of course, was Ibrahim, the breastfed child. There, Anas says,
And the house had been filled with the smoke of 'idhkhar, and he would kiss him and smell him
meaning with the presence of the smell and taste of smoke in that place. And as is known by experience, smoke covers the clothes and covers the bodies. So the Messenger of Allah - (peace and blessings be upon him) - despite that, would kiss his infant son in that place and smell him. He would smell his scent. His scent in the material sense, the scent of 'idhkhar smoke from this plant. But the natural scent that Allah - (Mighty and Majestic) - plants in young children, which only their kin and family can perceive, overcomes the smell of smoke that may have pervaded that place. So the point of this hadith, as they say, is this last sentence: that the Messenger - (peace and blessings be upon him) - out of his mercy for his family and his compassion for his children, used to kiss his son Ibrahim even if his material scent was unpleasant. And this is a disposition innate in fathers and mothers. It is observed when there are people in the gathering who are strangers to the infant or older than the infant, and for some reason or more, he is dirtier or filthier, perhaps covering his reality or more than his reality. Everyone present finds it ugly to look at him, except one of those present, who is the father or the mother. He finds it charming and likes it. This is a mercy placed in the hearts of good, righteous people. And what clarifies this hadith is the one that follows it, and its chain of narration is authentic. From Abu Hurayrah, who said: A man came to the Prophet - (peace and blessings be upon him) - with a boy, and he kept embracing him. So the Prophet - (peace and blessings be upon him) - said:
Do you have mercy on him?
. He said: Yes. He said:
Allah is more merciful towards you than you are towards this child. He is the Most Merciful of the merciful.
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 377
