Clarifying the meaning of the hadith: “Whoever among you is able to die in al-Madinah, let him do so, for I will intercede for whoever dies in al-Madinah on the Day of Resurrection.”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever among you is able to die in al-Madinah, let him do so, for I will intercede for whoever dies in al-Madinah on the Day of Resurrection من استطاع منكم أن يموت في المدينة فليفعل فإني أشفع لمن مات في المدينة يوم القيامة
The meaning of this hadith is not merely burial, but rather residence. This is because, as a rule, the people of the sacred lands are expected to be more righteous than those of other places. Furthermore, the one who migrates to these two sacred cities—Makkah and al-Madinah—has his reward doubled due to the superior virtue of prayer known in Makkah and al-Madinah. Therefore, he (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged the Muslims to die in al-Madinah.
