The Ruling on the Hadith: (Adorn yourselves with the morals of Allah), and that it is invalid, but its meaning is correct.

The Shaykh : On this occasion, I mention a famous hadith that is cited in some books but has no basis, though it is related to the meaning we are discussing. The wording of this hadith is "Adorn yourselves with the morals of Allah." "Adorn yourselves with the morals of Allah" is a hadith with no basis; that is, it was not narrated from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) in any way, not even through a fabricated chain. It became famous in later times that the Messenger (peace be upon him) said, "Adorn yourselves with the morals of Allah." But is there any validity in the meaning of this hadith that has no basis? Can it be said to a person, "Adorn yourself with the morals of Allah"? The answer is that it is possible regarding most of the attributes of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), but it is not possible, and indeed it is not permissible in the Shari'ah, for the created being to adorn himself with any of the attributes of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). For example, among His attributes is that He is the Compeller (al-Jabbar). It is not permissible for a Muslim to adorn himself with the attribute of compulsion (jabrout), because the attribute of compulsion is an attribute befitting Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He), the Creator. Therefore, it came in some of the holy hadiths:
That whoever is arrogant and haughty, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) will break him. أنَّ مَن تجبَّرَ وتكبَّرَ قَصَمَه الله - عز وجل -
; because majesty and compulsion are among the attributes of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). But if we come to the attribute of patience or the attribute of forbearance, then here it is said, "Adorn yourselves with these divine morals," but to the extent of one's ability, to the extent that is compatible with human nature.
