I used to have a satellite dish in the past, and I gave it as a gift to one of my relatives. Now, after Allah has granted me guidance, I want to destroy it. What should I do?

The questioner : A questioner says: I used to have a satellite dish in the past, and I gave it as a gift to one of my relatives. Now, after Allah has granted me guidance, I read a fatwa stating that giving it as a gift is not permissible and that it is forbidden. What should I do? I should mention that I cannot ask him for it back, because he might misunderstand me and think ill of me, believing that I simply do not want to give it to him, or that I have regretted my gift.

The Shaykh : Yes. I say: Praise be to Allah who has granted this person guidance. He should go to the one who took it, go to him, and ask him: Do you use it for what is forbidden, as is the common usage among people, or do you use it only for news? If it is the latter and he is trustworthy, there is no blame on him. If it is the former, and he watches whatever comes on this dish, then he should say to me: So-and-so says: Take it and break it in front of the man to whom I gave it. By this, the doubt of the man to whom it was given will be removed, and he will be convinced, if Allah wills. Another question?

The questioner : Yes.
