Some of the Imams' terms: Are they considered part of the vindication of narrators? For example: "a noble man," "he is among the people of truthfulness with them," "he spent wealth on the knowledge of hadith"?

The questioner : Are the following terms considered terms of vindication? For example, their saying: "a noble man," "he is among the people of truthfulness with them."

The Shaykh : Like their saying: A man, what?

The questioner : Noble.

The Shaykh : Noble.

The questioner : Likewise, "he is among the people of truthfulness with them," and likewise, "he spent wealth on the knowledge of hadith."

The Shaykh : The first and third terms are not considered vindication, but "he is among the people of truthfulness" may be considered vindication; however, that depends on looking at who said this word; because this terminology differs among some scholars; like some of them saying about a narrator: "truthful." Ibn Abi Hatim (may Allah have mercy on him), if he says about a narrator: "truthful," he means something different from what Ibn Hajar and those who followed his path mean when they say about a narrator: "truthful." The "truthful" in the expression of al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar means his hadith is good, and the "truthful" in the expression of Ibn Abi Hatim is a candidate for being graded good; meaning: his hadith is written down and strengthened by other evidence, while the narrator about whom Ibn Hajar said "truthful"; he is a proof in himself, but in a rank below the rank of the authentic hadith, and above the rank of the one about whom Ibn Abi Hatim said: "he is truthful." Likewise, if Ibn Abi Hatim said: "his place is truthfulness"; it means the same as his saying: "truthful." But if someone else who did not adopt this terminology said that; it is like al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar saying about a narrator: "truthful"; in that case, this expression becomes a vindication of the narrator. As for the expression before it and the one after it, they have no relation to vindication in what he narrated of a hadith.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
