The questioner : Ladies and gentlemen, the second message in this session is from Abdullah ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Abd al-Aziz from the Qassim region. He also says: “The Shaykh answering questions on *Nur 'ala al-Darb*: I like watching professional wrestling because it relaxes me and relieves my boredom. In the past, we used to spend some time on trips, racing, and hunting. Now, the affairs of living have become complicated, and we no longer have enough time for work and permissible leisure. Since I do not own a television, I go to one of the parks or cafes during wrestling time to watch it. Once, one of the wrestlers performed exciting moves for the audience, and they started shouting to cheer him on. Then, one of the brothers said, ‘O beloved of the Prophet, cover him, O Lord, O Lord, let him go.’ My question is: Is it permissible to use the phrase ‘O beloved of the Prophet’ for a non-Muslim?”

The Shaykh : In truth, before we answer this question, we would like to advise this brother and other listeners to know that time is precious.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And that man was created only to worship Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and he should not waste his time on such views that do not help him in obeying Allah.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Nor do they bring him any benefit in this world; rather, they are a waste of time, especially if they are in public parks, for the general rule is that these public parks are not free from seeing or hearing what is forbidden, as we believe.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : They are not free from seeing or hearing what is forbidden, such as songs, foul and obscene speech, smoking, or similar things that it is not permissible for a person to sit with those engaged in them. We advise him to review beneficial and valuable books, as long as he is a person of seriousness and work. He should also review some newspapers that investigate beneficial matters or contain news that allows a person to learn about the conditions of Muslims and the like. As for using the phrase “beloved of the Prophet” for a man whose status is unknown—whether he is Muslim or disbeliever—it is not recommended. If it is known that he is a disbeliever, it is not permissible at all. If it is known that he is a Muslim, then it is permissible if this Muslim is truly committed to his Islam. If there is doubt about him, it is not recommended. The general rule is that those who engage in this professional wrestling are generally not Muslims.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Therefore, it is not recommended to use this phrase for people whose status is unknown.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Because the “beloved of the Prophet” is the one who is beloved to Allah (Mighty and Majestic).

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And Allah the Exalted only loves the believers, the righteous, the doers of good, and others to whom Allah has attached His love based on the attributes they possess that Allah loves. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you.
