The questioner : He saysThe questioner : The hadith of 'A'ishah: "..." the hadith. Muslim ibn Ibrahim mentioned the phrase "..." from Shu'bah; is this addition authentic?

The Shaykh : I have no knowledge of it.

The questioner: In "Sunan Abu Dawud".

The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner: In "Sunan Abu Dawud".

The Shaykh : I say I have no knowledge of it; I do not know right now; it is from the section of "Sahih Abu Dawud" or "Da'if Abu Dawud." Do you have a clarification of something?

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : This is what requires research. If Muslim ibn Ibrahim added to the trustworthy narrators, meaning the narration from Shu'bah..., and he alone transmitted it without anyone else, then the well-known disagreement among the scholars of hadith also applies here regarding the rule: "Is the addition of a trustworthy narrator accepted or not?" Many scholars of hadith, and upon them the scholars of usul al-fiqh, hold that the addition in a hadith is accepted as a general, consistent rule. The majority of scholars of hadith, especially the imams among them who are critics, such as al-Bukhari, Muslim, Ahmad, Ibn Ma'in, and others, hold that an addition by a trustworthy narrator is accepted on the condition that he does not contradict someone who is more numerous in number or more precise in memory. So if this Muslim contradicted a trustworthy narrator like him, his addition would be accepted.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : If he contradicted more than one trustworthy narrator, his addition would be anomalous, and the anomalous is a category of weak hadith. But I do not remember now, when I passed through this hadith, what I did with this addition; did I include it in "Sahih Abu Dawud" or in its "Da'if"?
