As you know, the value of the Lebanese pound has dropped in the market

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner: His EminenceThe Shaykh- May Allah preserve you - , as you know, the value of the Lebanese pound has dropped in the market; so what is the ruling in the Shari'ah regarding a person who buys one million pounds from the bank and takes a post-dated check for it until the value of the pound rises, and then sells it at a higher price? What is your opinion on this, and may Allah reward you with good?

The Shaykh : I do not see trading in paper currency, nor dealing in it, except within the limits of dire necessity only, so that a person can manage his needs. As for trading in it, especially in circumstances like these where some paper currencies fluctuate to the point that trading in them is almost a matter of loss and gambling, this is my opinion on this issue. We have spoken about it in detail in some gatherings, so this amount is sufficient for us at this time.
Yes.
