The questioner : He says, “O Shaykh, there is a question here in… He says: Chapter of Sad: Suhban ibn Uthman, Abu Talasa al-Harasi, with the fathah on both hamzas. Ibn Manda narrated through the route of Abdullah ibn Abd al-Kabir from his father, who said: I heard my father, Suhban Abu Talasa, say: Abd al-Jabbar ibn al-Harith came to us after the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had taken the pledge of allegiance, then he returned and fought with him in several battles, and he was killed in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I said: Ibn Hibban mentioned in the section on the Tabi'un, Suhban ibn Abd al-Jabbar al-Lakhmi, whose kunya is Abu Talasa, who narrated from Amr, and the people of Palestine narrated from him; so it seems that it is him.

Another questioner : Peace be upon you, and Allah’s mercy and blessings.

The questioner : I heard my father, Suhban Abu Talasa.

The Shaykh : Excuse me, with the sad?

The questioner: Yes.

The questioner : I heard my father, Suhban Abu Talasa, say.

The Shaykh : Is it with the fathah on the sad, or with the dammah?

The questioner : Obviously, the diacritics are not mentioned here, but…

The Shaykh : I mean, do you not remember?

The questioner : No. Abu Suhban.

The Shaykh : I think it is with the dammah on the sad. And what do you have in books regarding this occasion? We fix the names. What do you have?

The questioner : He said: Abd al-Jabbar ibn al-Harith came to us after the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had taken the pledge of allegiance, then he returned and fought with him in several battles, and he was killed in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I said: Ibn Hibban mentioned in the section on the Tabi'un, Suhban ibn Abd al-Jabbar al-Lakhmi, whose kunya is Abu Talasa, who narrated from Amr, and the people of Palestine narrated from him. So the question is: how was he killed in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and then the people of Palestine narrated from him? Is the intention that Abd al-Jabbar ibn al-Harith is the one who was killed, or that this Suhban mentioned is the one who was killed? If he was killed, how does al-Hafiz say: “The people of Palestine narrated from him”? Did they narrate from him… directly or indirectly?

The Shaykh : Give me the book.
