Refutation of the Doubt of Those Who Distinguish Between Hand-Drawn Images and Photographic Images

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : So I say: whoever compares those who distinguish between hand-drawn images, which are forbidden, and mechanical images, which they permit, while both are forbidden, and says, "These images did not exist in the time of the Messenger of Allah," is making a mistake. The least that can be said about it is that it is a verbal error, and even if it were merely a verbal error, it would be disbelief itself. Why? Because they place the words of the Messenger of Allah on the level of the words of a scholar who does not look beyond the tip of his nose. The Messenger of Allah, as you know, is described by the saying of the Exalted:
(3) Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. (4) It is not but a revelation revealed,
[An-Najm 53:3-4]
. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), when he said:
Whoever draws an image
, meant what he said, whether the image was known at that time or not. Therefore, the words of the Messenger of Allah must be applied in their generality and comprehensiveness, unless a specification enters them. How much more so when no specification has entered them? A thing is mentioned by its like. This resembles, in some respects, the saying of the Messenger of Allah, which was contradicted by many women and many men, namely his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
May Allah curse those who pluck their eyebrows and those who have their eyebrows plucked, those who tattoo and those who have tattoos, and those who file their teeth, changing the creation of Allah for beauty.
. Some people say: "Plucking the eyebrows is specific to the eyebrows only, but if a man or woman plucks the hair from the cheeks, that is permissible." They contradicted the general text and the Messenger of Allah's reasoning for the general text. He said:
Those who pluck their eyebrows
. He did not restrict what he said to "those who pluck their eyebrows" or "their eyebrows," but he used a general term, so it includes all plucking that is not permitted. Then he confirmed this generality by his saying (peace be upon him):
Those who change the creation of Allah for the sake of beauty.
. So the one who changes, or the one who changes, from her eyebrow, what does that mean? Adorning oneself. And this and that, what do they mean? One who takes what is on the cheeks, adorning oneself. So those who change the creation of Allah for beauty, neither this nor that is permissible due to the generality. This is the speech of the Infallible. Likewise, he said:
Everyone who makes representations of things will go to hell
Mishkat al-Masabih 4498
,
Whoever makes an image will be commanded
Sunan an-Nasa'i 5360Sahih (Darussalam)
, and so on through the hadiths.
Therefore, it is not permissible for a Muslim to specify these generalities with his opinion; because the religion, as Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
If the religion were by opinion, I would have said to wipe over the tops of the leather socks, but I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wiping over the leather socks.
. Therefore, the religion makes the intellect a follower of the transmission, and the correct transmission established from Allah or from His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). This speech has many tails and branches, but it is sufficient for me now to say: All images are forbidden, and what has preceded of explanation is sufficient for you.
