What is the ruling on the zakah of jewelry?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : All right; regarding the zakah of gold, jewelry other than gold, jewelry?

The Shaykh : ... .

The questioner : Full?

The Shaykh : How do you mean full?

The questioner : Zakah, meaning he pays the full zakah on the woman's jewelry, on all of it?

The Shaykh : Just as if it were gold coins or gold bars or anything else.

The questioner : Regardless of what the jurists said about whether it was for adornment or for use or for other than use?

The Shaykh: There is no difference.

The questioner : Gold, is it obligatory to pay zakah on it?

The Shaykh : Because if it is for adornment, it is not hoarded, and if it is hoarded, it is clear that zakah is due on it. We have texts that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw women, or some women, adorning themselves:
Do you pay its zakah? أتخرجين زكاته ؟
. She said: No. He said:
A brand of fire جمرة من نار
. So if it is hoarded, then a fortiori zakah is due on it. Otherwise, we would also be entering into one of the ruses of the Jews; every woman has a little gold and she turns it into what? Jewelry.

The questioner : Adornment.

The Shaykh : No, into jewelry, and she puts it on without adorning herself with it; because we distinguish between the jewelry she adorns herself with, on which zakah is due, and the jewelry she does not adorn herself with, on which no zakah is due. Glory be to Allah!
