about a person’s participation in a sports club, where he himself does not expose his private parts, but the rest are not regulated

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Okay; if he is a member of the club and it is not exposed, and the rest of the team...?

The Shaykh : And this is a general problem. Does he not want to live with them? Does his gaze not fall upon their private parts? And then consider this nice young man who is careful about his Islamic conduct; tomorrow, once he grows up... he will be affected. Because the nature of a corrupt society is that it corrupts the good. Because the many overpower the few. And this is an example you can see with your own eyes: if you have a bunch of garlic in your house with one clove, if corruption starts in it, you will see the clove closest to it begins to have the corruption seep into it. As for the one far from it, does the corruption affect it?

The questioner : It spreads from it.

The Shaykh : Yes, it spreads from it. So contagion, my dear, is of two types:
Material contagion.
And moral, character-based contagion.
Just as a material thing spreads to its kind from the material, so too does the moral spread to its moral kind. Therefore, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said, educating us—Muslims, young and old—he said:
The example of the righteous companion is like the seller of musk: either he gives it to you for free, or you buy from him, or you catch a pleasant scent from him.
, do you see? So in any case, you profit from him; either he gives it to you for free, or you buy from him and make a profit instead of going down to the market... The righteous companion is for free, or you catch a pleasant scent from him.
And the example of the bad companion is like the blacksmith: either he burns your clothes, or you catch a foul smell from him.
, so in any case, here you lose and there you profit. Why? This is the example of the righteous companion, and that is the example of the bad companion.
The Shaykh: Therefore, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said in another hadith:
The Muslim and the polytheist should not see each other's fires.
, what does
Their fires do not appear to one another.
mean? You know, perhaps you have heard or read that the Arabs in the past mostly lived in tents, like our Bedouins. Do you know the Bedouins?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes, every tent owner lights a fire in front of his tent and cooks in it, and so on. The Messenger spoke to the Arabs according to their customs. He said:
The Muslim and the polytheist should not see each other's fires.
; meaning, the Muslim does not live near the polytheist such that each one, whether the Muslim or the polytheist, lights a fire and sees the other’s fire. No, he says:
The Muslim and the mushrik (one who associates partners with Allah) do not see each other's fires.
; meaning, the Muslim stays away from him.

The questioner : Meaning, he does not live next to him.

The Shaykh : He does not live next to him. May Allah protect you.
He lives far away, far from him; why? Because his customs are not the customs of the Muslim. The Messenger feared that the Muslim’s customs would be influenced by the disbeliever’s customs. Do you see now? The Islamic society: the believing, righteous, chaste, veiled girl enters university, and after two or three years she gets her degree, and you see she has developed, she has changed, of course; why? They corrupted her in the university. Yes, some of them are strong believers who have patience, but this...; therefore, the Arab poet said:
"Do not ask about the man, but ask about his companion, for every one who associates with another imitates him."
If you want to know... the one you do not know, is he good... is he fine or not... look at who he walks with? If he walks with the Muslim young men, the bearded ones like your father and like me, it means this is a good young man. And if you see him walking with the young men who wear tight pants that outline their thighs and more than that, you know then that he is deviant, because he is associating with what? The wicked; therefore, the poet said:
"Do not ask about the man, but ask about his companion, for every one who associates with another imitates him."
So it is not enough for you to be wearing a covering for your private parts, while the other group is exposing their private parts; that will not do. You need to place yourself in a righteous society, so that I do not miss the opportunity and tell you that you and your father are with me, that you do not see your state, that you are covering your private parts! Because this covering is not sufficient; because the intention is not that we cover our private parts so that we do not see that I am protecting— for example—my white, brown, or black skin, and you likewise; no, there is something else that must not be like this pant. I have a waist full of flesh, that one is exaggerated, no, bone without flesh. And this is also a matter that is perfect in Islam. Therefore, when we compiled the book "The Veil of the Muslim Woman," we placed there eight conditions for the woman’s veil, among which—we said—that the veil not be tight or transparent. Transparent means it is like the stockings that have holes, do you know them? It shows the white flesh under the black sock; this is from the fitnah of Satan and his play with the children of Adam.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Also stockings, yes, but I brought you a clearer example. This is called transparent; meaning it reveals the skin color, so this is not permissible, of course, Islamically. But if it does not reveal the skin color but outlines the organ, that is also not permissible; therefore, tell your father to accustom you from now on to wear what I am going to tell you: the wide pant; this is not available; so he dresses you in the jilbab, which is better. But he will not do this unless he does it for himself as well.
