The questioner : Recently, two methods of da'wah have become widespread, namely religious songs and religious plays. What is the ruling of the Shari'ah on these songs and statues, and does acting fall under lying?

The Shaykh : We have been asked about this repeatedly, and therefore we will summarize the answer by saying that there are no religious songs in Islam called "religious songs," nor are there plays or theatrical performances. These are also things by which some Muslims have been influenced from the customs of the poor and wretched Westerners. By the grace of Allah, we are not like them, and we have no need for their plays and theatrical performances. This is among the matters that entered only in the present age, and the early Muslims knew nothing of it. Therefore, we do not see this as a permissible matter.

The questioner : Shaykh, if they are statues depicting Islamic battles or things that call to...

The Shaykh : They contain, as came in the question, much falsehood, in order to complete some of the scenes, as they claim.

The questioner : Shaykh, if you could explain some of the evidence.

The Shaykh : It is sufficient.
