Warning that accompanying the deceased by car is a religious innovation.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Today, the relatives go out to accompany the funeral in their cars. Without a doubt, we must warn against this, fearing that it may become a recommended practice. We must warn that accompanying the deceased in these funeral processions is a misguided religious innovation; indeed, it is a double innovation. This is because, in terms of its contradiction of the method by which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) accompanied funerals, it is an innovation. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions used to accompany funerals on foot, walking, on the one hand, and on the other hand, they carried the bier on their shoulders. So if we place the bier in a car and keep this bier out of sight so that they are not disturbed by seeing the dead from above their heads, and then accompany it to its final resting place in cars as well, there is no doubt that this form of accompaniment contains many contradictions to that Prophetic form of accompaniment. This is an innovation, or rather innovations. The other misguidance comes from the aspect of imitating the disbelievers. For accompanying the deceased in this manner is consistent with a nation that does not believe in Allah or the Last Day, and these are nations other than the nation of Islam.
