Attending the funeral of a disbeliever

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 2612 )
Q3: What is Allah’s ruling on attending the funerals of disbelievers, which has become a political imitation and an agreed-upon custom?

A3: If there are among the disbelievers those who undertake the burial of their dead, then it is not permissible for Muslims to take charge of burying them, nor to participate with the disbelievers or assist them in burying them, or to be polite to them in attending their funerals in accordance with political traditions. This is because it was not known from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), nor from the Rightly Guided Caliphs. Indeed, Allah forbade His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) from standing over the grave of Abdullah ibn Ubayy ibn Salul , and He attributed this to his disbelief. The Exalted said:
And do not pray [the funeral prayer, O Muhammad], over any of them who has died - ever - or stand at his grave. Indeed, they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger and died while they were defiantly disobedient.
[At-Tawbah 9:84]
. However, if there is no one among them to bury him, the Muslims bury him, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did with the slain of Badr , and with his uncle Abu Talib when he died. He said to Ali :
Go and bury himاذهب فواره
. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
