Lesson on "Encouragement and Warning," Chapter on the Warning Against Depicting Animals in Homes and Elsewhere

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh: Praise is to Allah; we praise Him, seek His help, and seek His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evils of our own selves and from the badness of our deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can misguide, and whomsoever He leaves to misguide, none can guide. And I bear witness that there is no deity but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger,
O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].
[Ali 'Imran 3:102]
,
O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.
[An-Nisa 4:1]
,
(70) O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice. (71) He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment.
[Al-Ahzab 33:70-71]
. As for what follows:
Indeed, the best of speech is the speech of Allah, and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), and the worst of matters are their innovations, and every innovation is a religious innovation, and every religious innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Fire.
Now we have a new section, which is one of the sections that deals with a matter that people have long been mixed up in today and have been afflicted by it, and the affliction increased when many scholars were forced to interpret some of the following hadiths to allow people what they were forced to do or what they were lenient about regarding the forbidden depiction of images. The author (may Allah have mercy on him) says: The warning against depicting animals and birds in homes and elsewhere.
First: From 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Those who make these pictures will be punished on the Day of Resurrection, and it will be said to them. 'Make alive what you have created.'
Sahih al-Bukhari 5951
. It was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
This hadith forbids image-making and clarifies that it is among the major sins; because the Messenger (peace be upon him) explicitly states that those who make and depict these images will be punished on the Day of Resurrection with punishment. I say, by way of clarification: it is almost eternal; because they will be punished when it is said to them:
Bring to life what you have created
, so if they are able to give life to what they created, the punishment will end, but they will not be able to find a way to do that, as will come in some of the following hadiths.
