There are stories in the Sirah that are not authentic, and some of them contradict the Qur'an

The Shaykh : You all know the story of the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) migration from Makkah to al-Madinah, and his taking refuge, or you mention his taking refuge in the cave. How the polytheists, when they followed the tracks of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), reached the door of the cave but were diverted, asking, "Is there anyone in the cave?" This is the dove's nest, and this is the spider's web. This story is narrated in some books of the Sunnah, such as al-Tabarani and others, but it does not have a valid chain of narration, as I have clarified in some sources that I do not remember right now. However, the point is that it contradicts the noble verse that says, "What is the beginning of it?" With soldiers you did not see. Who remembers the verse?

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : And He supported him with soldiers you did not see.

The questioner : In al-Tawbah, it is in Surat al-Tawbah.

The Shaykh : The summary is "with soldiers you did not see." The point is that the story says Allah supported him with soldiers they saw, whereas the truth is that this story, or something like it—I do not remember exactly now—was one of the reasons for the refusal of the people in charge of the Kuwaiti magazine Al-Wa'i al-Islami to continue their request for me to be a contributor to the magazine while I was in Damascus, of course. When the first issue was published, they wrote to me and expressed their desire for me to be one of its writers. I think at that time I stipulated that I would adhere to my methodology of authentication and weakening of hadiths. The answer then came with approval, but I was soon surprised by the publication of the first issue of the Hijri year—I do not know what year it was—and in it was an article about the migration, containing the story of the dove and the spider, and an image representing the cave, the nest, and the spider. Glory be to Allah, they do not notice. They wrote under the surah the verse mentioned earlier, which invalidates it. So I wrote to them an article, the summary of which was that the story, in terms of its narration, is not authentic, and that it is, in any case, contrary to the verse with which you adorned the image. And this, as they say in our Syria, was the "guest's face." The reason is that, unfortunately, all Islamic magazines, except for a very, very few, are based on publishing what pleases the public. As for advice, clarification, and correct awareness, unfortunately, they do not want it. Why? Because one who lacks a thing cannot give it. The people in charge of such magazines—this is their culture. Therefore, here, when the author comes to the Sirah, he must just pass by, so to speak, with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to al-Madinah, and not touch upon the story of the dove and the spider. And this is a deficiency in the art of authorship, a deficiency. But it is not completed from the verse. So the Sirah, as it should be, one should choose from it what is authentic, and one should also quote what relates to it from the Noble Qur'an. And combining this and that is the correct knowledge. And drink now, in the name of Allah.
