His saying (peace and blessings be upon him): “When he was brought the first of the fruit, he would place it on his eyes, then on his lips”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner: All right; in another hadith, O Shaykh, in *Sahih al-Jami'*.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner: He said (peace and blessings be upon him), as a marfu' report:
When he was brought the first of the fruit, he would place it on his eyes, then on his lips, and then he would give it to one of the boys who was with him
; What is the meaning of placing it on his eyes?

The Shaykh: Seeking blessing from it.

The questioner: Seeking blessing from it?

The Shaykh: From the recent blessing of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), in the manner of what he used to do when the rain would come down and he would say that it is:
A hadith I have covenanted with my Lord حديثٌ عهدٍ بربِّي
in this manner, do you know this hadith?

The questioner: Yes, that is right, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh: Yes, and it is not befitting for the Muslim to be overly strict or to delve too deeply into what the meaning is? The meaning is what the Messenger did, and that is best, and we should follow his example. As for delving into why he did it? We accept it with full acceptance.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : And may Allah protect you, if Allah wills.

The questioner: Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
