There is a hadith in Sahih al-Jami' that says, "When he was given the first fruit of the season, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would place it on his eyes and then on his lips."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : It is narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) as a marfu' hadith:
When he was given the first fruit of the season, he would place it on his eyes and then on his lips, and then give it to the boy who was beside him. كان إذا أوتِيَ بباكورة الثمرة وضعها على عينيه ثم على شفتيه ثم يعطيها من يكون جنبه من الصبيان
So what is meant by placing it on his eyes?

The Shaykh : Seeking blessing from it.

The questioner : Seeking blessing from it?

The Shaykh : From the recent blessing of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), in the manner of what he used to do when rain would fall and he would say that it is
A hadith of a promise with my Lord حديث عهد بربي
in this manner. Do you know this hadith?

The questioner : Yes, Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Yes, and it is not befitting for a Muslim to be overly strict or to delve too deeply into what is meant? What is meant is what the Messenger did, and that is the best, and we should follow his example. As for delving into why he did it? We accept it as it is.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : And may Allah protect you.

The questioner : Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
