In your commentary on "Mukhtasar Sahih Muslim," you sometimes say: this word is not found in "Sahih Muslim"; how did such differences arise?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : In "Sahih Muslim," you mention that in some hadiths you say: it is not found in Muslim, and so on. So what is this Muslim and that Muslim? How is that?

The Shaykh : This, may Allah bless you, is "Mukhtasar Muslim."

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : That is: the one who compiled this abridgment is not the one who authored the original; that is, "Sahih Muslim." The one who authored "Sahih Muslim" is Imam Muslim, and the one who authored the "Mukhtasar" from it is al-Hafiz al-Mundhiri, do you understand?

The questioner : Yes, so, who compiled it?

The Shaykh : Wait, wait, may Allah guide you!

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : So you now know that the author of the abridgment is not the author of the original. The original is by Imam Muslim, and the "Mukhtasar" is by al-Hafiz al-Mundhiri.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Al-Hafiz al-Mundhiri may slip up, may forget, may memorize well, a word may drop out, and so on. So when we took this "Mukhtasar" and decided to publish it for people with some of the commentary you have seen, some differences appeared between the original and the "Mukhtasar." The requirement of scientific research is to refer to the original, which is "Sahih Muslim," and these differences became clear to us, so we point out what we are able to.

The questioner : Is it all correct?

The Shaykh : I am not saying now that it is all correct. I am not saying that. I am answering you about what you asked; this is the reason.
...

The questioner : Peace be upon you, O our Shaykh.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.

The questioner : Our Shaykh, we are walking together, if Allah wills.

The Shaykh : How?

The questioner : We are walking together, if Allah wills.

The Shaykh : Yes, but we are waiting for Umm al-Fadl to come.

The questioner : Ah, of course, yes, Shaykh.

The Shaykh : When she arrives, you will go ahead of us.

The questioner : If Allah wills, may Allah preserve you.

The Shaykh : May Allah keep you safe.
