Is raising one's voice when greeting a gathering considered a disturbance to them?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Here is a question: The questioner says: I hope you will remind those who enter late during your talk not to raise their voices in greeting, as it occupies the assembly and causes disturbance. Is it not sufficient to fulfill the Sunnah by greeting quietly so that only a few people near the door hear it?
I mean, I cannot deny a request like this. I mean, not because it disturbs the lesson, as the questioner says; because the greeting has a virtue in Islam that many Muslims do not know. One of those virtues is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Peace is one of the Names of Allah which Allah has placed on the earth. Extend it among you. السلام اسمٌ من أسماء الله وَضَعَه في الأرض ؛ فأفشُوه بينكم
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 1039
. So this spreading is not the same as offering the greeting. Spreading means increasing the offering and exaggerating in it. And if we were to imagine now what came in a report narrated by Imam Malik in "Al-Muwatta" regarding the action of Ibn Umar, if we were to imagine this action now, we would say that the action of Ibn Umar was reprehensible and abhorred: "He used to say to his slave: Take us out to the market. His slave Nafi' said: And I knew that he had no need for the market, but he would go out to greet everyone he met on the road." So what do we imagine about this person... the road, peace be upon you, peace be upon you, peace be upon you, peace be upon you. Of course, this is reprehensible to us because it is neglected and abandoned. But this is his application of that hadith and its like,
So spread it among yourselves فأفشوه بينكم
.
So now, if we return to the desire of the questioner, the one who entered said: Peace be upon you, as the questioner wants, without raising his voice. Why did this questioner settle for this amount and not say, as many of the learned mention, verses of poetry which I do not remember, "Let the professor sit here and extend to us his extension," considering that he studied like our story in the past, jurisprudence, verses of poetry that limit the places where it is not permissible to offer the greeting; among them: greeting the one reciting the Qur'an, and greeting the one praying, and greeting the people of the lesson; all these things they said without a text, but rather it was their independent legal reasoning. We hope that they have a reward. But when we study the matter of spreading the greeting from one side, and we study the details as an application of this general text from the Sunnah and the Salaf, we find the issue contrary to what the Khalaf say. So many of you know the hadith of Ibn Umar that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) visited the Ansar in the mosque of the Ansar, Quba Mosque, so he stood to pray, and the news of the arrival of the Messenger reached the mosque of the Ansar, so they would enter the mosque, and whenever a group of them entered: Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah, while he was praying. Was there any disturbance?! There was no disturbance. So what was the position of the Messenger (peace be upon him) toward these disturbers?
I am telling, and the one who tells disbelief is not a disbeliever; so how is this not disbelief? What was the position of the Messenger in expression toward these greeters, and in the expression of another toward these disturbers; did he deny it to them? No, rather he approved them for it; because he returned the greeting to them with a gesture of his hand, and the narrator described to us, in his precision in narration, the manner of the gesture of the Messenger (peace be upon him) with his hand; he said: Like this, he raises his hand like this, peace be upon you, peace be upon you, and like this; so here there is no doubt there is disturbance... I will say: there is disturbance, but this disturbance is in the path of Allah. Disturbance, if it is in the path of Allah, is acceptable; because people think that all disturbance is not prescribed. Also, this is one of the contradictions.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Listen, my brother, this is also one of the contradictions among the masses of people. Disturbance is not prescribed, so it is prescribed for them!! And the disturbance prescribed by the text of the hadith of the Messenger of Allah is not prescribed. They raise their voices with the remembrance after the prayer: "There is no god but Allah alone, having no partner" after Maghrib and after Fajr; this is disturbance, they are going like this!! Do not disturb,
do not say the Qur'an out loud so that others hear it لا يجهر بعضكم على بعض بالقراءة
Muwatta Malik 3:30
, like this the Messenger said, like this we found our fathers, this disturbance is not prescribed; of course, so it is prescribed for them!!
Greeting the one praying, which is mentioned in authentic hadiths, not just one hadith, this causes disturbance to the pray-ers, my dear, this disturbance to the one praying is not a disturbance legally; because there is spreading of the greeting. Similarly, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would enter the prayer and prostrate in a prostration for the Asr prayer, long and long, contrary to all the prostrations he prayed or prostrated in this prayer and in others, until doubt entered some of the pray-ers behind... the Messenger, perhaps he died:
Indeed, you are to die, and indeed, they are to die. إِنَّكَ مَيِّتٌ وَإِنَّهُمْ مَيِّتُونَ
[Az-Zumar 39:30]
, so one of them, it appears from what they say in our region in Syria: "His prayer is burnt"; the one who has no patience raises his head "to check," to be sure the Messenger did not die; no, prostrating on what? His seven limbs, and if he sees a strange matter, he sees on his back al-Hasan or al-Husayn... his prostration, and after the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) finished, they said to him: O Messenger of Allah, you prostrated after the end of your prayer a prostration you lengthened; meaning what is the reason? It is not usual! He said:
my womb was a vessel to this son of mine إن ابني هذا كان قد ارتَحَلَني
Mishkat al-Masabih 3378
,
He had taken me as a mount كان قد ارتَحَلَني
do you see the etiquette of the Messenger...? He says about his grandson: He took me as a mount, he took me as a mount;
I disliked hastening him. فكرهْتُ أن أعجِلَه
.
Go like this, go away like this, like this people do today, why? He is praying, why do people do like this if a child - for example - wants to play with him in the prayer "to distract him," pushing him, why? Because in his opinion this is play in the prayer, not befitting the prayer, while the Messenger (peace be upon him) considered this from the prayer; did you see the difference how? The Messenger, the child riding on his back, and the Messenger was patient with him until he was full of his play, and he got down from his back, after that he raised his head, so he considered his patience and his response to the desires of the child from among the worship and obedience, it is the same worship that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned in the authentic hadith:
I have been made to love from your worldly life perfumes and women حُبِّب إليَّ من دنياكم الطِّيب والنساء
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 10:849
, it is not in the hadith three, pay attention, the word three corrupts the hadith, the hadith in the wording:
I have been made to love from your worldly life perfumes and women حُبِّب إليَّ من دنياكم الطِّيب والنساء
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 10:849
, a new sentence, and here is the point:
but my comfort has been provided in prayer وجُعِلَت قرَّة عيني في الصلاة
Sunan an-Nasa'i 3940Hasan (Darussalam)
.
This prayer that was the coolness of the eye of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), he made from this coolness that he would cool the eye of his grandson by mounting him on his back!! All these are etiquettes and Shari'ah that people have ignored, and they reversed the legal realities, among them do not greet the one praying because it will disturb the one praying, do not greet the one reciting the Qur'an because it will disturb the reciter, and the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) came to a group reciting the Qur'an and said:
Peace be upon you. السلام عليكم
; greet those who recite the Qur'an. Similarly, we say now: one entered and greeted, what is the matter, people? I am going to say it is not more difficult than that, and at that time the questioner may withdraw the question; one of you sneezed, stood up, what did he say? Praise be to Allah, is the Sunnah for him to keep his praise to his Lord secret or to raise his voice? He wants to raise his voice, if he wants to raise his voice, the assembly will remain distracted from the whole lesson, and it will become a demonstration! A new Islamic demonstration, "May Allah have mercy on you, may Allah have mercy on you, may Allah have mercy on you," you disturbed our lesson!! Never mind, we consider this an interjected sentence, a break from the lesson.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : ... you mock your companion who praised Allah; because Allah made him sneeze, this is Islamic etiquette, what is it to you if your tastes now have developed with the material and with the liquid European etiquettes?! They do not accept this shouting in the path of Allah, if you went to Europe and saw how they walk in the streets, women and men, you would praise Allah for this shouting and this disturbance that some of us disapprove of.
This is sufficient, and praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
