How do we reconcile the hadiths that encourage being a stranger with the hadith: (My community will not agree upon error)?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh: How do we reconcile the hadiths that encourage being a stranger, and the hadiths:
Indeed, the Ummah does not agree upon misguidance
?
The questioner – as it appears to me – like the rest of the masses of people, understands
That the ummah will not agree upon error
And we have heard in previous hadiths praise for the strangers
Blessed are the strangers.
, so the matter became difficult for him; so he said: How do we reconcile
Blessed are the strangers.
– for example – with:
the Hand of Allah is with the Jama'ah
Sunan an-Nasa'i 4020Sahih (Darussalam)
, or
My Ummah will not agree upon misguidance
?
Answer: The hadith:
My Ummah will not agree upon misguidance
was not transmitted to indicate that the truth is with the few or with the many, but rather to indicate that Allah – Mighty and Majestic – protected the group of the ummah from all of them agreeing upon error. It is impossible for the entire Muslim ummah to be upon error. This is a favor that Allah bestowed upon this Muhammadan ummah, whereas the Christian and Jewish ummahs and other nations, it is possible for all of their members to agree upon error, and indeed, that is the reality. As for the Muslim ummah, Allah – Mighty and Majestic – preserved it from all of its members agreeing upon error.
If we make it smaller to facilitate understanding of this hadith and this issue; if we reduce the number of the ummah to one hundred people, and this is a realistic matter; because when the call starts anew, the Muslims in it will be a minority, as was the case in the time of the Messenger – peace and blessings be upon him –. So the call began with him, then Abu Bakr accepted Islam and they became two, and so on. So if we assume the ummah is one hundred people, and they differ; it is impossible for this entire difference to be error; there must be in these one hundred, some people, even if few – this is a second discussion – with whom the truth is. So if we assume they differed and became two halves, fifty and fifty; fifty of them say one opinion, and the others say a second opinion; one of the two opinions must be correct and the second opinion wrong; why? Because the Messenger said:
My community will not agree upon misguidance
; did the ummah agree upon error when there were among them those who say two things, a correct statement and a wrong statement? They did not agree upon error. So if we say: the group upon the truth is forty-nine, and the one upon error is fifty-one; the answer is still that the ummah did not agree upon error; so we continue to reduce the number of those holding to the truth until we say: one against ninety-nine; did the ummah agree upon error? No, because the ummah’s number is one hundred, and there was among them one whom Allah – Mighty and Majestic – guided to the truth, and the others were upon error.
So the statement of the Messenger – peace and blessings be upon him – is true regarding this ummah whose number we assumed to be one hundred, that it will not agree upon error; this is the meaning of this hadith, and it is not the meaning of
The ummah will not agree
, meaning the large group or the majority of the Islamic ummah is upon error; no, this is a wrong understanding from two aspects; the first: the Arabic aspect, as we explained to you, and the second: the religious aspect; so where do we go with the statement of the Messenger – peace and blessings be upon him –:
and my nation will split into seventy-two, all of which will be in Hell apart from one
Sunan Ibn Majah 3993Sahih (Darussalam)
?! So one out of seventy-three, meaning a minority, is in Paradise and the majority is in the Fire; so the hadith:
My Ummah will not agree upon misguidance

Then what about the many verses that condemn the majority and praise the minority?
but most of the people do not know." وَلَكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
[Al-A'raf 7:187]
, "But most of the people do not understand,"
And most of the people, although you strive [for it], are not believers.
[Yusuf 12:103]
,
And if you obey most of those upon the earth, they will mislead you from the way of Allah
[Al-An'am 6:116]
, where do we go with these clear, explicit texts in condemning the majority, at a time when we want to make the majority a proof against the minority?!
If we know this reality, the contradiction between the hadiths of the strangers and the praise of them disappears; because they are
A few righteous people among many people; those who disobey them are more than those who obey them
.

The questioner : May Allah reward the Shaykh with the best reward, and benefit us and you with what we have heard. Until we meet again in the next tape of this collection.
And peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
