Prayer in the Hijr of the Ka'bah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Is it permissible to pray in the Hijr of Isma'il, and if it is permissible, is it required to face the Ka'bah or not?

First: I inform you that this is not the stone of Isma'il, and nothing is known about Isma'il regarding it. Rather, this stone was the work of Quraysh. When the Ka'bah collapsed and they wanted to rebuild it, their funds were insufficient, so they did not find enough money to complete the Ka'bah on the foundations of Ibrahim (peace be upon him). They decided to limit themselves to a portion of it and to leave the side containing the Black Stone as it was, while taking from the opposite side. So they did that. For this reason, the scholars said: Approximately six and a half cubits of the Hijr are part of the Ka'bah. Based on this, it is permissible to pray in it if it is a voluntary prayer, facing either the Ka'bah or the wall of the Hijr that is parallel to the boundary of the Ka'bah.Meaning: The wall that is in the part that is of the Ka'bah. This is if it is a voluntary prayer. If it is an obligatory prayer, there is a difference of opinion. And the correct view is: That the obligatory prayer is permissible in the Hijr and in the Ka'bah, just as the voluntary prayer is permissible; because it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he prayed a voluntary prayer in the Ka'bah, and what is permissible in the voluntary is permissible in the obligatory unless there is evidence to the contrary.
