The Ruling on Likening and Comparing Allah to Creation When Reciting Verses
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Your Eminence! Is it permissible for a person, when he recites the saying of Allah the Exalted: [Al-Zumar: 67] Is it permissible for him to clench his hand?
If he clenches his hand in front of people, that is likening and comparing Allah to creation, and it is not permissible for a person to do anything that suggests likening or comparing Allah to creation, especially in front of the common people. Furthermore, does he know that Allah the Exalted clutches the earth in the same manner that he clutches it? It may be that He clutches it in another manner; for the way of clutching varies even among people. Therefore, it is not lawful for him to do that.Someone might say: When the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) recited: [An-Nisa: 58] he placed his finger on his eye and his ear.So we say: This was established by the Sunnah and it is the truth. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to emphasize these two attributes, hearing and seeing, by mentioning their locations in the sons of Adam. As for imitating the manner of clutching when he does not know it, that is forbidden; because it is speaking about Allah without knowledge.
