Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (And the sky and what He built)]

Allah the Exalted said:

And the sky and what He built, and the earth

وَالسَّمَاءِ وَمَا بَنَاهَا * وَالأَرْضِ

[Al-Shams: 5-6] (And the earth) The sky and the earth are opposites.

And the sky and what He built, and the earth and what He spread out, and a soul and what He proportioned

وَالسَّمَاءِ وَمَا بَنَاهَا * وَالأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَاهَا * وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّاهَا

[Al-Shams: 5-7] .

And the sky and what He built

وَالسَّمَاءِ وَمَا بَنَاهَا

: The exegetes said: (ma) here is a verbal noun, meaning: And the sky and its construction, because the sky is great in its height, its vastness, its strength, and other things that are among the signs of Allah in it, and likewise its construction is a firm construction, as Allah Blessed and Exalted said:

You do not see in the creation of the Most Merciful any inconsistency. So return [your] vision [to the sky]; do you see any breaks? ⁽⁴⁾ Then return [your] vision twice again. [Your] vision will return to you humbled while it is fatigued.

مَا تَرَى فِي خَلْقِ الرَّحْمَنِ مِنْ تَفَاوُتٍ فَارْجِعِ الْبَصَرَ هَلْ تَرَى مِنْ فُطُورٍ * ثُمَّ ارْجِعِ الْبَصَرَ كَرَّتَيْنِ يَنْقَلِبْ إِلَيْكَ الْبَصَرُ خَاسِئاً وَهُوَ حَسِيرٌ

[Al-Mulk: 3-4] .
