The Permissibility of Racing in All Types of Light and Heavy Weapons

His Eminence the Shaykh: Is the permissibility of racing with arrows an analogy for the permissibility of racing with weapons, such as air rifles, for example?The Shaykh: Is it permissible to race, or is it forbidden? Racing is permissible except in what is forbidden, and racing is prohibited except in three things; because racing involves a reward, and racing means taking the lead. Racing on foot is permissible, so racing is permissible in three things: with arrows, with hooves, and with hoofs (or feet), and whatever is similar to them in meaning is like them. Thus, rifles and missiles today are like them. In the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), there were only arrows, but weapons have developed now. Any weapon, it is permissible to race with it for a reward.
Likewise, tanks, military aircraft, and troop carriers are all permissible for racing.
