The Sunnahs of Friday, and the ruling on reciting Surat al-Kahf on Friday
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
I ask you, may Allah reward you, to mention to us the Sunnahs that a Muslim should follow on Friday, and what is the ruling on reciting Surat al-Kahf on Friday?
Reciting Surat al-Kahf is a recommended practice (sunnah); because it contains a great reward established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him),And as for what is done on Friday, it is: First: taking a bath, and the Friday bath is obligatory. If a person leaves it without an excuse, he is sinful;Because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (The Friday bath is obligatory for every person who has reached puberty) meaning: for every adult,And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (When one of you comes for Friday prayer, let him take a bath) And when 'Uthman ibn 'Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) entered while the Commander of the Faithful, 'Umar, was delivering the sermon, he rebuked him for his lateness,So he said: (O Commander of the Faithful! By Allah, I did nothing more than perform ablution and then come,So he said to him: and only performed ablution? -Meaning: and you limited yourself to only ablution-And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (When one of you comes for Friday prayer, let him take a bath) So you see that the Commander of the Faithful, 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), rebuked 'Uthman ibn 'Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) despite his status in Islam, and as we all know that he was the third caliph in this Ummah, and yet he rebuked him when he limited himself to ablution. However, it is an obligation without which the prayer is valid; because it is not an obligation due to a state of ritual impurity like the bath for major impurity, but it is an obligation for which a person is sinful for leaving it except for an excuse, such as if there is severe cold and he has nothing to warm the water with, or if he is sick and would be harmed by the bath, or something similar to that.
And from that also: The miswak, and this miswak is not the usual miswak, but it is a special miswak, with which you clean the teeth more and massage them more.
And among them: Perfume, that a person perfumes his head, his beard, and his garment.
And among them: Going early to it, that he goes early when the sun rises; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged that and said: (Whoever takes a bath -Meaning: on Friday- and then goes in the first hour, it is as if he sacrificed a camel, and whoever goes in the second hour, it is as if he sacrificed a cow, and whoever goes in the third hour, it is as if he sacrificed a horned ram, and whoever goes in the fourth hour, it is as if he sacrificed a chicken, and whoever goes in the fifth hour, it is as if he sacrificed an egg) So what a Muslim should do is seize the opportunity, for this is the opportunity of a lifetime. What benefit is there in staying and killing time -as they say- in the house or the market, and leaving this great reward? Go to the mosque and you will get the reward of this sacrifice: a camel, or a cow, or a horned ram, or a chicken, or an egg, after you have taken a bath. Then when you go to the mosque, you will get much good. You occupy yourself with prayer or with recitation. If you get tired of prayer, you recite, and if you get tired of recitation, you pray. There is no harm in talking to one of your brothers about something beneficial, such as discussing knowledge or something similar to that. But being deprived! And Satan -may Allah protect us and you from him- overcomes many people. You find him in the house with no work, so you see him in the house just to kill time until the time for prayer comes, and this is a great deprivation.
Also, from what is recommended on Friday before the prayer: that a person wears his best clothes that he has, whether they are new or washed; because that is from the Sunnah. And he should seek to make supplication when the imam enters on Friday, with whatever he wishes, and especially during the prayer; because in Friday there is an hour in which a Muslim servant who asks Allah for something while standing in prayer will not be answered except that he is given it.
And among them: That he increases in sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), increase in it, send blessings always, a person does not get tired or weary,Send blessings always: O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad, O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad, and you are walking, and you are sitting, and in the mosque, and in the house, and in the market.
And the good is much, and Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned in *Zad al-Ma'ad* many things to which you can refer, if Allah wills, to complete the benefit.
