[The ruling on using audio enhancements (echo) when reciting the Qur'an in prayer]

One of the imams of the mosques asks, saying: We heard you speak about audio enhancements (echo); what was the text of that?

The text of that is: That these audio enhancements (echo), if they necessitate the repetition of a letter, are forbidden, because it is an addition to the words of Allah the Mighty and Majestic, and it is not permissible. As for if they do not necessitate the repetition of the sound, we look at it: if it makes the voice appear as if it is the voice of a singer, then this is also prohibited. However, we do not currently assert prohibition; because there is no addition to the wording of the Qur'an. This is what we say regarding these audio enhancements. Then we say: O my brothers! The criterion is not in the pleasure and enjoyment of the voice; the criterion is in humility. How many people have recited without a loudspeaker, let alone audio enhancements, and were more humble for themselves and for the listeners.
