Prohibition of Harassing the Non-Muslim Under a Treaty
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Some young people harass non-Muslims on the roads, and they may harm them. Is this permissible?
Harassing non-Muslims with whom we have a treaty and covenant is forbidden and not permissible; but honoring them and making room for them is what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade, where he said: (Do not initiate the greeting of peace to the Jews and the Christians, and if you meet them on a road, force them to the narrowest part of it), and the meaning is not to harm them or squeeze them—for example—against a wall or the like; because the Jewish disbelievers were present in the time of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) in Madinah, and he did not treat them with this treatment; with harm, but rather he (peace and blessings be upon him) treated them as required by the treaty.
