The Ruling on Praying Behind a Disobedient Imam

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
ٍ
Your Eminence! What is the ruling on praying behind an imam who deals in usury or interest (riba) and lets his garment hang below the ankles (isbal)?
Praying behind an imam who deals in usury or interest (riba) and lets his garment hang below the ankles is valid. However, if it is easy for you to have a pious man of religion lead you, then do so. Otherwise, pray behind a disobedient imam. The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) used to pray behind al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf al-Thaqafi, and al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf al-Thaqafi was known to be a tyrant who killed people, yet they prayed behind him. Ibn Umar, who was among the most ascetic and most scrupulous of people, used to pray behind him.
