Is it permissible to eat Bulgarian meat, since it is the common type here and the situation does not allow for buying local meat due to its high price?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Is it permissible to eat Bulgarian meat, since it is the common type here and the situation does not allow for buying local meat due to its high price?

Another questioner : Chicken.

The Shaykh : We advise against buying this meat for the known reasons: it is not certain that it was slaughtered according to the Islamic method. Another point that the Muslim youth must be aware of is that if this Bulgarian meat were slaughtered according to the Islamic method, it would still be obligatory for Muslims to boycott it. It has become known to everyone that the rulers in Bulgaria are persecuting Muslims with the utmost severity and are trying to drive them away from their religion by all means. I am truly amazed at how one can reconcile trading with them, especially when there is doubt about whether the meat is a lawful slaughter, while they are trying to drive the Muslims there away from their religion. They even force them to change their names and the names of their children to disbeliever names for which Allah has sent down no authority. This is due to the negligence of the Muslims and the severing of the ties of affection and love and the bond of religion to which the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) referred in his saying:
The similitude of believers in regard to mutual love, affection, fellow-feeling is that of one body مثل المؤمنين في تواددهم وتراحمهم كمثل الجسد الواحد
Sahih Muslim 2586a
to the end of the hadith. The severing of the ties of this unity has reached the point where they no longer ask where this meat comes from, even though they read in the newspapers that their Muslim brothers there are being tortured and driven away from their religion. I do not advise eating this meat at all, for the reason we have been discussing and for this new reason that we had not heard before, namely that they are persecuting Muslims with this great persecution.

The questioner : Okay, and what about Turkish meat, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : Turkish meat is a substitute for Bulgarian meat, in fact.

The questioner : Okay, the majority there are secular, I mean.

The Shaykh : Who?

The questioner : Turkey.

The Shaykh : I do not think the new generation will be secular, or that many of them will be secular. Even we see that when you go for Hajj or 'Umrah, you find, what Allah willed, that there are elderly people and young people. The situation there is different. For example, our friend Abu Ayyub, a person who is not obligated to eat lamb meat, if he eats meat, what is it called? Chicken. Praise be to Allah, it is a great blessing.

The questioner : Fish.

The Shaykh : And you have fish.

The questioner : There is a person who sells sheep on installments.

The Shaykh : On installments, heh, okay, let's move, O Abu 'Abdullah, at nine, nine minus a third.

The questioner : We ask you a final question.

The Shaykh : ... Grilled meat, yes.
