Preoccupation with soccer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
They ask the third-grade student about glorifying soccer by establishing the World Cup for it, and people love it. Do you love soccer?

If he says: Do you love soccer? He said: Yes.
And from the time he leaves the lesson, he puts down his books and goes to play soccer. For this reason, this ball has caused the students to be heedless, even the older students in the middle and high school stages. It has captured their hearts and minds, and they have forgotten what they were created for, except for whom Allah wills. They have forgotten what they should be concerned with, such as thinking about the condition of the Muslims, what is obligatory for us regarding their ignorance, and what we must prepare for them. It has made them forget all of that. The truth is that I see this matter requires consideration, as these games concentrate the students' attention to the point where they become preoccupied with them over what is more important, or even over what is important. If we learn this soccer and the other games associated with it, can we thereby open the Holy Sanctuary (Bayt al-Maqdis)? Absolutely not. Can we defend our homeland if an enemy attacks it? Absolutely not, without a doubt. In the trial that occurred in the Gulf two years ago, who benefited the people? Allah the Mighty and Majestic benefited them, but through supplication and direct action. The religious people were those who remained in the country after it was occupied by others; they were the ones who distributed food and helped those in need of assistance. The soccer players and others did not come. The soccer players may have gone to distant lands to save themselves. Therefore, it is obligatory for us to focus on what is beneficial. As for these games, a person can amuse himself with them when tired, bored, or lazy, but they should not be the capital and everything.
We ask Allah for guidance.
