The Ruling on Delegating the Slaughter of the Udhiyah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Your Eminence! Regarding the udhiyah, some organizations, such as the Relief Commission and others,She says: have shares where one pays a sum of money, and they perform the udhiyah in any of the poor countries of the world. Do you advise doing this, or not?
I advise against doing that. And I say: This is an error, for a person to delegate someone to sacrifice on his behalf.Because there are several prohibitions in this: The first prohibition: The ritual of the pilgrimage in this country is not completed if we give money to be sacrificed elsewhere.

And secondly: The purpose of the udhiyah is to worship Allah by slaughtering it, and this is also lost if it is slaughtered in another place, for he does not perform the slaughter himself nor is he present for it.

Third: It involves abandoning what Allah has commanded, which is eating from it.Allah the Exalted said:
So eat of them and feed the miserable and poor.فَكُلُوا مِنْهَا وَأَطْعِمُوا الْبَائِسَ الْفَقِيرَ
[Al-Hajj: 28] ,
and when they are [lifeless] on their sides, then eat from them and feed the needy and the beggarفَإِذَا وَجَبَتْ جُنُوبُهَا فَكُلُوا مِنْهَا وَأَطْعِمُوا الْقَانِعَ وَالْمُعْتَرَّ
[Al-Hajj: 36] And it is known that if it is slaughtered in another place, he cannot eat from it.

The fourth: We do not know who will undertake the slaughter. It may be someone who does not know how to slaughter properly, or someone who is not qualified for slaughter, or someone who is negligent in the slaughter by omitting the mention of Allah’s name, for example, or the like of that.

The fifth aspect: We also do not know whether it will be slaughtered at its proper time, or before the time, or if they are negligent in delaying the slaughter.
These prohibitions occur in that, and perhaps others may occur as well.
So what I advise our Muslim brothers is not to do that,Meaning: not to give the Relief Commission or any other organization anything to buy sacrifices in other places and slaughter them.

If someone were to say: Did not the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) send the hady from Madinah to Makkah?Answer: Yes.
But the hady is specific to Makkah; it cannot be slaughtered in Madinah, and it is hady dedicated to the Ka'bah. It is not like sending one’s money to Bosnia and Herzegovina or other places to be sacrificed on his behalf.
So I advise our Muslim brothers not to do that, and I advise the students of knowledge as well to clarify this to the common people, because many people think that the only purpose of the udhiyah is the meat, and this is an error.Allah the Exalted said:
Their meat will not reach Allah, nor will their blood, but what reaches Him is pietyلَنْ يَنَالَ اللَّهَ لُحُومُهَا وَلا دِمَاؤُهَا وَلَكِنْ يَنَالُهُ التَّقْوَى
[Al-Hajj: 37].

The questioner: Is it permissible for him to give charity, O Shaykh! After he has completed the udhiyah, meaning: after he has performed the udhiyah, he gives charity of one hundred riyals, one hundred and fifty, two hundred riyals? The Shaykh: There is nothing wrong with that.Meaning: If he wants to benefit this organization, he gives them money and keeps the udhiyah with him in his country.
