Tafsir of Surat al-Humazah

Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and his Companions, and those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment.

To proceed: This is the one-hundredth meeting of the weekly gatherings known as the Open Door Meeting, and it takes place on Thursday, the twenty-first of Rabi' al-Awwal, 1416 AH.

We begin this meeting by discussing the details of this surah as far as is possible, which is the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He:

⁽¹⁾ Woe to every scorner and mocker ⁽²⁾ Who collects wealth and [continuously] counts it. ⁽³⁾ He thinks that his wealth will make him immortal. ⁽⁴⁾ No! He will surely be thrown into the Crusher. ⁽⁵⁾ And what can make you know what is the Crusher? ⁽⁶⁾ It is the fire of Allah, [eternally] fueled, ⁽⁷⁾ Which mounts directed at the hearts. ⁽⁸⁾ Indeed, Hellfire will be closed down upon them ⁽⁹⁾ In extended columns.

وَيْلٌ لِكُلِّ هُمَزَةٍ لُمَزَةٍ * الَّذِي جَمَعَ مَالاً وَعَدَّدَهُ * يَحْسَبُ أَنَّ مَالَهُ أَخْلَدَهُ * كَلَّا لَيُنْبَذَنَّ فِي الْحُطَمَةِ * وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْحُطَمَةُ * نَارُ اللَّهِ الْمُوقَدَةُ * الَّتِي تَطَّلِعُ عَلَى الْأَفْئِدَةِ * إِنَّهَا عَلَيْهِمْ مُؤْصَدَةٌ * فِي عَمَدٍ مُمَدَّدَةٍ
