The Ruling on the Tabligh Group
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Dawah and Tabligh group has spread in Riyadh among us, and we have found great errors with themAnd among them: in tawhid (the oneness of Allah). What is your opinion? The Shaykh: What did you find? The questioner: One of them spoke to me and said: Some people claim that the polytheists of Quraysh acknowledged tawhid al-rububiyyah (oneness of lordship), and this is a mistake.
The Shaykh: Is that all?The questioner: There are some matters; some of them say, and this same person says, that it is permissible to pray in a mosque that contains a grave, citing the Prophet’s Mosque as evidence.
My opinion of the Tabligh group is that they are a group with a great influence, and Allah has benefited through them; how many disbelievers or open sinners have been guided by their hands! This is a good deed that must never be denied. Then, they are quiet and do not speak about anyone; in fact, due to the intensity of their wara' (scrupulousness)—which we may praise them for or not—they do not speak in matters of knowledge and fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) out of fear of making a mistake. And if someone asked them for a ruling, they said: Ask the scholars.
But there is great ignorance among them, and much ignorance; because most of them are common people. If the students of knowledge went out with them and looked at the bid'ah (religious innovation) or what is suspected to be bid'ah that they have, and guided them, there would be much good in that! And how many open sinners, open sinners, open sinners these Tabligh members contacted, and they became among the best of Allah’s servants.
But what I advise is that they should not go outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; because the gathering where the Tabligh members meet outside the country is told to me: that its leaders are people of great bid'ah.
And as for the saying of the one you agreed with: The polytheists do not acknowledge tawhid al-rububiyyah (oneness of lordship); this is sufficient to call out his ignorance, and that he reads the Qur'an and does not know its meaning. For Quraysh acknowledge lordship.Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says: [Al-Mu'minun:84-85] .
[Al-Mu'minun:86-87] .
[Al-Mu'minun:88-89] , so they are acknowledging it.
And Allah the Exalted and Majestic says: [Yunus:31] .
And this is clear and explicit.
As for his argument that it is permissible to pray in a mosque built on a grave, citing the Prophet’s Mosque because it contains the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), this is also from his ignorance; because the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) was not newly established in a mosque, nor was a mosque built on it! Rather, he was buried in the house of 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her). But when people needed to expand it, and they saw that the most suitable place to expand from was the eastern side, they expanded it, and the grave remained in its enclosure in its place in a separate room, so it is not in the mosque, and the mosque was not built on it.
And this is clear.
