The Wisdom Behind the Occurrence of Calamities

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Your Eminence! You mentioned that on the Day of Resurrection the earth will split and the earth will be leveled. Do the splitting of mountains in volcanoes count as part of the leveling, or not?
No.
The splitting of the earth by volcanoes is considered a punishment from Allah (Mighty and Majestic). It is similar to earthquakes, and earthquakes are undoubtedly among the punishments of Allah. They are a warning and a caution for those upon whom this volcano has erupted, as well as for others; for the One who split the earth so that this volcano came out of it is capable of splitting it anywhere. And therefore, it is obligatory for us not to say: These are natural matters.Rather, we say: These are cosmic, decreed matters. Allah (Mighty and Majestic) decreed them and willed to show His signs to the servants so that they would remember and return to Allah. But, unfortunately, due to our little knowledge of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and our lack of fear of Him, these things pass by us like the wind, as if they were nothing. Yet the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), when he saw clouds or mist, would go in and out and change [his demeanor].His Face and he says: (What prevents me from believing is that there may be punishment in it. A people were punished by the wind).
So, the result is that these volcanoes are considered a punishment from Allah (Mighty and Majestic), a warning and a cause of fear. Therefore, the believer should take a lesson from them and be afraid. Just as the trials that occur among people—such as wars and the like—are also punishments. As Allah the Exalted said:
Say, "He is the [one] Able to send upon you affliction from above you or from beneath your feetقُلْ هُوَ الْقَادِرُ عَلَى أَنْ يَبْعَثَ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَاباً مِنْ فَوْقِكُمْ أَوْ مِنْ تَحْتِ أَرْجُلِكُمْ
[Al-An'am: 65] And regarding these two, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (I seek refuge in Your Face), meaning that something may befall us from above or from below; this is something from which one cannot escape. He said:
or to confuse you [so you become] sectsأَوْ يَلْبِسَكُمْ شِيَعاً
[Al-An'am: 65] He makes you scattered
make you taste the violence of one anotherوَيُذِيقَ بَعْضَكُمْ بَأْسَ بَعْضٍ
[Al-An'am: 65] So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (This is easier), even though it is great. For a person to face a man who is his equal and kill him, and thereby make lawful his wealth, his honor, and his family, this is great. Therefore, we say: It is obligatory for us to take a lesson from the cosmic signs of Allah in which we have no hand and no power, and to take a lesson from the trials that occur among people. For the One who decreed trials in a calm, quiet land before is capable of decreeing them in another land and transferring this trial to another land. So it is obligatory that we take a lesson from these signs and that they not pass by us like the wind.
