The Ruling on Drinking Jewish Beverages
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Your Eminence! There is a beverage called (Coca-Cola) produced by a Jewish company. What is the ruling on drinking this beverage? What is the ruling on selling it? Is it considered cooperation in sin and transgression, or not?
Has it not been reported to you that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) bought food from a Jew for his family, and that he died while his armor was pledged with this Jew? Has it not been reported to you that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) accepted gifts from the Jews? And if we were to say: We do not use what the Jews make, or we do not eat what the Jews make from things that do not require ritual slaughter, for we would miss out on many things, such as using cars that only the Jews manufacture, and other useful things that only the Jews manufacture.
It is true that this beverage may contain a calamity that the Jews put in it; because the Jews are not trustworthy; and for this reason, they placed poison in the sheep they gifted to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and he died (peace and blessings be upon him) while saying: (I am still feeling the pain of the food I ate in Khaybar, and this is the time of the severing of my aorta from that poison) meaning: my death,And for this reason, al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) died from the Jews killing him, may the curse of Allah be upon them, and may the curse of Allah be upon the Christians, for they are not trustworthy, neither the Jews nor the Christians. But in my opinion, what reaches us must have been tested and examined, and it is known whether there is danger or harm in it or not.
