Exegesis of Verses from Surat al-A'la

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds. We praise Him, seek His help, and seek His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our own souls and from the evil of our deeds. Whoever Allah guides is not to be led astray, and whoever He leaves to stray is not to be guided. And I bear witness that there is no deity but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family and his Companions and those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment).

To proceed: We begin our weekly meeting, which is the second meeting of the month of Rajab, 1414 AH, and which takes place every Thursday, by interpreting the chapter
Exalt the name of your Lord, the Most High,سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى
[Al-A'la: 1], because our interpretation of the Juz' al-Naba' has brought us to this chapter. We have chosen to interpret the short chapters, which are the last part of the Qur'an, because they are frequently recited in the prayers of the general public. And the Qur'an was revealed for three matters: First: worshipping Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) by reciting it, which entails reward. Indeed, whoever reads a letter from the Qur'an, he will have ten good deeds for it.

And the second: Reflecting on its meanings.

And the third: Taking a lesson from it.Allah the Exalted said:
[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.كِتَابٌ أَنْزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَارَكٌ لِيَدَّبَّرُوا آيَاتِهِ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُولُو الْأَلْبَابِ
[Sad: 29] And no one can remember [the lesson] through the Qur'an unless he knows the meaning; because the one who does not know the meaning is in the position of one who does not read.As Allah the Exalted said:
And among them are unlettered ones who do not know the Scripture except in wishful thinkingوَمِنْهُمْ أُمِّيُّونَ لا يَعْلَمُونَ الْكِتَابَ إِلَّا أَمَانِيَّ
[Al-Baqarah: 78] meaning: except [as] mere recitation. For this reason, the Muslim should strive to know the meaning of the Qur'an; so that he benefits from it, and so that he follows the path of the Salaf, for they did not pass over ten verses until they learned them and the knowledge and practice contained in them.
