Exegesis of Verses from Surat al-A'la

Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions, and upon those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment.

To proceed: This is the fifty-eighth session of the open forum, which we began after the end of the Hajj season on Thursday, the 22nd of Dhul-Hijjah, 1414 AH. We ask Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) to conclude this year of ours with good, pardon, and forgiveness.

What remains for us from the exegesis of Surat al-A'la is the saying of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He):

⁽⁹⁾ So remind, if the reminder should benefit; ⁽¹⁰⁾ He who fears [Allah] will be reminded. ⁽¹¹⁾ But the wretched one will avoid it - ⁽¹²⁾ [He] who will [enter and] burn in the greatest Fire, ⁽¹³⁾ Neither dying therein nor living. ⁽¹⁴⁾ He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself ⁽¹⁵⁾ And mentions the name of his Lord and prays. ⁽¹⁶⁾ But you prefer the worldly life, ⁽¹⁷⁾ While the Hereafter is better and more enduring. ⁽¹⁸⁾ Indeed, this is in the former scriptures, ⁽¹⁹⁾ The scriptures of Abraham and Moses.

فَذَكِّرْ إِنْ نَفَعَتْ الذِّكْرَى * سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَنْ يَخْشَى * وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا الأَشْقَى * الَّذِي يَصْلَى النَّارَ الْكُبْرَى * ثُمَّ لا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلا يَحْيَا * قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَنْ تَزَكَّى * وَذَكَرَ اسْمَ رَبِّهِ فَصَلَّى * بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا * وَالآخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَى * إِنَّ هَذَا لَفِي الصُّحُفِ الأُولَى * صُحُفِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَمُوسَى
