Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (And do not defame one another)]
Then He, the Exalted, said: [Surah al-Hujurat: 11] Defamation: pointing out a defect,By saying: such as saying so-and-so is dull, so-and-so is tall, so-and-so is short, so-and-so is black, so-and-so is red, and the like of what is considered a defect.
And his statement: (And do not defame one another) was explained with two meanings: The first meaning: Do not defame one another; because each of us is in the position of a person's self, your brother is in the position of your self, so if you defame him, it is as if you defamed yourself.
The second meaning: Do not defame your brother, because if you defame him, he will defame you, so his defaming you is a cause for him to defame you, and at that time you are as if you defamed yourself,And upon him is the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): (May Allah curse the one who curses his parents,So they said: O Messenger of Allah! How does a man curse his parents? He said: He insults a man's father, so his father is insulted, and he insults his mother, so his mother is insulted) .
This verse contains: The prohibition of pointing out the defects of the believers to one another, so it is not permissible for you to point out a defect in your brother, whether it is a physical trait or a moral trait.
As for the physical attribute that relates to creation, faulting him is in reality faulting his Creator, Mighty and Majestic.
Who created the human being? Allah, Mighty and Majestic.
Who made him with this attribute? Allah, Mighty and Majestic.
Can a person perfect his creation, so that the tall becomes short or the short becomes tall, or the ugly becomes beautiful or the beautiful becomes ugly? This is not possible, so if you defame a person and point out a defect in his creation, you have in reality pointed out a defect in the Creator.
And for this reason, if we found a built wall that is leaning and we pointed out a defect in the wall, did we point out a defect in the wall or in the builder of the wall? So if you point out a defect in a person's creation, it is as if you pointed out a defect in Allah (Mighty and Majestic), so the matter is serious.
As for pointing out a defect in his character, such as this man being quick to anger, severe in taking revenge, foul-tongued, do not point out his defect, because perhaps if you point out his defect, Allah will test you with the same defect,For this reason, it came in the athar: [Do not show schadenfreude over your brother, lest Allah cure him and test you] But if you find bad character in him, it is obligatory to give advice, to contact him if you can contact him, and to make clear to him what defect he has, or to write him a letter in your name or in the name of an advisor, for example.
Then He, the Exalted, said:
And do not insult one another
